Star City Inn Project

 

The requirement for this project was to provide a professional, easy to maintain, web site with an on-line room reservation system.  I fulfilled these  needs by first starting with a Content Management System with a customized page template and then designed and developed a separate reservation system that could utilize the CMS's forms capability.  Below you will see some front end shots along with the administrative views of the CMS and custom reservation system.

The Home page is clean and the tab system allows viewers quick access to site information and the reservation system.

Here is the contact page. I show it so that you can see how easy maintenance is on the site.  Look at the screen shot below.  That is the admin view and will explained more in a couple of frames.

To make changes to the site you first must log-in to the admin portion of the website by going to a specified URL.  Here you log-in using a user name and password.

When logged in you land in the control panel.. A click on Articles and you are into a list of all articles associated with the site.  Today we want to make a change to the phone number in Contact Us.  Click on Contact Us and you open the content editing... >>>

The edit window opens and you will note it immulates MS Word in a lot of ways.  Compare this window with the web page above.  This editing is easy and intuitive. To change the phone number simply highlight the number and type in the new.  Once done, click on Apply or Save and you are done.

Reservations are filled out using the reservation form shown here.  It is short, but provides the hotel with all the information needed to complete the reservation in their own hotel management software.

Once the form is submitted the registrant has a chance to review their reservation to ensure all is correct.  When finished they submit the reservation.

Upon submission of the reservation the registrant sees his notice.  At the same time a notice is sent out letting them know the reservation has been received and is being processed.  Reservations are not confirmed until the registrant receives an email from the hotel with a valid Reservation Number.

An email is also sent to a specific hotel account.  When it is received whoever is working the desk can log into the reservation management system.  This is separate from the site maintenance system and it has the ability to limit access so hotel management can set room rates and that sort of thing while desk workers can only see and send reservation confirmations or regrets....

Here is an example of the review screen.  It only allows the viewer to look at all of the information from the reservation request.

If changes are needed and when confirmatoin or non-confirmation need to be sent to the requester the administrator goes to the reservation edit screen where all information can be updated.

The second half of the edit form allows for the administrator to confirm or not confirm a reservation request.  In either case an email is sent from the system to the reservation requester with all of the information they need.

Room Management allows the hotel management to setup the room types, rates, special event rates, discount rates, taxes and room availability.
